How to play
Enter one name per line, then choose 2, 3, 4, or a custom number of teams.
The full list is shuffled using your browser's random number generator, then divided into the chosen number of teams in order.
If the number of people doesn't divide evenly, the leftover people are distributed one at a time across the first few teams, and the page states clearly which teams ended up larger.
Press Shuffle Again for a completely new random split without re-entering the names.
Tips
- This tool balances team *size*, not skill — if you want to account for skill level, seed each team manually afterward using the shuffled list as a starting point.
- For pairs specifically (teams of exactly two), Random Partner Picker handles the odd-person-out case with a clearer “bye” explanation.
- Re-shuffling produces an entirely new random split — it doesn't just rotate the previous one.

Does this guarantee perfectly balanced skill levels?
No — it randomizes who's on which team, but has no information about skill unless you arrange that yourself afterward.
What happens if the group doesn't divide evenly?
The tool tells you exactly which teams received an extra person rather than hiding the imbalance.
Can I generate more than 4 teams?
Yes, choose Custom and enter any number of teams up to your total number of participants.
